Boys State

American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students. It is a participatory program where each student becomes a part of the operation of his local, county, and state government.This year American Legion post 379 is sending 17 Statesment including 2 from the SAL to Austin on June 7th through June 12 to participate.

Presented to the American Legion Post 379 on July 1st, 2015. Check out the presentation Plaque. The purpose of the Burn Pit is for the ceremonial retirement of unserviceable American Flags. The approved method of disposing of unserviceable Flags has long been that they be destroyed by burning,

Americanism Update

North Texas Law Enforcement Explorer Advisor Academy (TLEEAA) recent graduates, and Post 379 scholarship recipients standing with Legionnaires Cindy Roberts and Brandon Williams. The TLEEAA is for new explorers who have never attended a law enforcement academy. Explorer recruits take part in basic calisthenics/physical training, navigating a US Marine Corp obstacle course, rappelling, team building exercises, leadership skills, proper handcuffing/search techniques, defensive tactics (including pressure points, strikes, blocks, kicks, etc.), pepper spray/Taser/ASP baton training, a Red- man challenge, firearms safety course, and shooting law enforcement pistols, rifles, shotguns.  Students also learn how to perform traffic stops, intoxicated driver investigations, and operate radar.  They also learn basic penal code, CCP, traffic and family laws.  This year’s graduation awards ceremony was held on Saturday June 27th, 2015.

Raingutter Regatta

The raingutter regatta is a racing event for Cub Scouts that is the sailboat equivalent of the pinewood derby. The boats are usually raced in a standard rain gutter that is ten feet long, placed on a table or saw horses, and filled to the top with water. The boats are propelled by blowing on the sail, either directly or through a drinking straw; the boat cannot be touched with hands or the straw. The first boat to reach the end of the gutter is the winner. The overall winner is determined by an elimination system. (More pictures on the Gallery Page)

American Legion Auxiliary

The Auxiliary is sending three students to participate in the Auxiliary Girls State Program. Developing leadership skills, confidence and action-based understanding of the government process gives young women a lasting foundation for success, both personally and professionally. The American Legion Auxiliary believes that educating youth about the basic ideals and principles of government will help ensure the survival of our democracy. ALA Girls State is a unique and exciting government-in-action learning program in which Auxiliary members guide young women to become knowledgeable stewards of freedom, democracy and patriotic citizens.
